Fear is one of our most difficult emotions to overcome. It can stop us dead in our tracks and prevent us from moving forward with our life and fulfilling our destiny. In “Dying To Be Me” Anita Moorjani (speaker, writer and cancer survivor) talks about her near death experience. After returning from the other side she said, “The most frequent question people ask me is why I think I got cancer. I can sum the answer in one word, fear. I was afraid of failing, being disliked, letting people down and not being good enough. I also feared illness, cancer in particular. I was afraid of living, and I was terrified of dying.”
Fortunately there is a healing modality that can help us to overcome the emotion of fear. In the early 1900’s Dr. Edward Bach developed a healing system that we know today as The Bach Flower Essences. Dr. Bach’s system consists of seven groups, one of which is FEAR. Dr. Bach felt that there are five different types of fear and prescribed a different remedy for each.
Rock Rose is one of the remedies in the fear group and can be taken when a person experiences a feeling of terror, such as being in a very frightening situation and/or barely escaping from an accident. This remedy may also be given to a child who wakes up from a terrible nightmare in the middle of the night.
The remedy Mimulus is best taken when a person has an identifiable fear. These are the fears of everyday life. Examples of known fears are:
• Fear of flying in an airplane
• Fear of failure
• Fear of public speaking
• Fear of poverty
• Fear of having a terminal illness and so forth.
When a person’s emotions are out of control, the remedy Cherry Plum is helpful. This might be a situation when a person feels he/she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown or simply feels afraid that they might commit a harmful act. Cherry Plum may also be given to a small child who is screaming and having a temper tantrum.
The remedy Aspen can be taken when a person is fearful for no known reason. Examples of an unknown fear are:
• Fear of the dark
• Fear that something terrible is going to happen
• An unexplainable anxiety that comes on suddenly
Aspen can be taken when a vague, unknown fear descends upon a person without understanding why it is happening.
Red Chestnut is the last Bach Flower remedy in the fear group. It may be taken when a person is concerned that something unfortunate will happen to someone they care about. Many times this over-concern involves a family member. As with the other types of fear it is very important to release the fear we have for those whom we care about.
The Bach Flower remedies are easy to take, do not interfere with other medications, and may be purchased at your local health food store. Adding 2 drops daily of the desired remedy to your tea, coffee, water or juice can help you to let go of your fear and change your energy to a more positive one. It is time for all of us to let go of our fears and lead a healthier, happier life.
