The Heart Chakra

//The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is situated in the breast, behind the sternum, and is the chakra of love. It is through this chakra that we express unconditional love and forgiveness. It is at the exact midway point between the lower three chakras and the upper three, and it is where the energies from earth, which rise through the body via the lower chakras, and the cosmic energies, which come down through the upper chakras, meet. The lower chakras embody male, or yang energy, while the upper chakras embody female or yin energy, and these two energies also merge in the heart chakra, thus making it androgenous. Its colour is green, which is the colour of balance, and relates to its midway position in the line of chakras, where it is the balancing point between male and female, heaven and earth. Green is also the colour of peace and healing. Pink is another colour associated with the heart chakra. Pink is to do with unconditional love and spiritual service, and is a wonderful colour for healing grief.

The organs that it governs include the physical heart, the circulation, the breasts, the arms and hands, and the upper lungs, and it is associated with the thymus gland, which controls our immune systems. Its element is air. Blockages in this chakra may ultimately result in heart conditions.

There are minor chakras in the palms of the hands which are connected with the heart chakra, and these chakras play a vital role in spiritual healing – healers channel the healing energies from the universe down through the crown chakra into the heart, and then down through their hands into the person to whom they are giving healing. Problems with the hands can often indicate blockages in the heart chakra.

Essential oils for the heart chakra include rose, bergamot, and geranium. Crystals include rose quartz, green aventurine, and malachite.
