The Solar Plexus Chakra
This chakra is situated in the middle of the abdomen directly below the sternum. It is associated with the pancreas, and it governs the digestive system. The element of this chakra is fire – fire involves combustion, and when we are metabolising our food, we are “combusting” food and converting it into energy.
Its colour is yellow, which is a bright, happy sunshiny colour, and is great for promoting happiness and mental clarity. It is also a good detoxifying colour, and it is interesting to note that the solar plexus chakra is associated with the liver, which plays a major part in helping the body to process toxins. Anger is a toxic emotion, and a lot of it is stored in this chakra. Skin conditions are often a result of seething anger stored within, and yellow is a good colour to use in helping these conditions to heal.
The solar plexus chakra is to do with one’s identity as an individual, one’s self- esteem, and one’s unique place in the universe. This is the chakra through which we can take on energies from other people and situations, and a lot of information relating to past and present incarnations is stored here, as well as influences from mass consciousness, including stuff that is generated by the media.
Young children are very sensitive, and can often have dramatic nightmares, and “see” scary things in the dark, because their solar plexus chakras are wide open, and they cannot filter out energies that are not beneficial to them. By the time they are about seven years old, they have developed a shield over this chakra, and are not quite so open to unwanted energies.
When there are blockages in the solar plexus chakra, a person can be very sensitive to criticism from others. I have had problems with this in the past, where someone says something hurtful, sometimes unintentionally, and I have felt it like a stab in the solar plexus area. A good remedy for this is to take Bach Flowers walnut essence, and to place a shield of white light over the solar plexus. Otherwise, if this is allowed to continue over a period of time, it can gradually result in energy depletion and loss of self esteem. (Needless to say, if your solar plexus is properly balanced, and you have a strong sense of self, this is a lot less likely to happen!)
Physical conditions relating to blockages in the solar plexus chakra can include digestive problems, diabetes, and influenza.
Citrine, topaz and amber are the best crystals for this chakra. Other crystals for protection from unwanted outside energies are hematite and onyx.
Essential oils for the solar plexus include orange, lemon, mandarin, neroli, petitgrain, chamomile, ylang ylang, black pepper and sweet marjoram. Juniper is an excellent oil for clearing away energies that have been taken on from other people. Vetiver is a great oil for protecting the solar plexus, and for people who are sometimes known as psychic sponges – in other words, they are extremely sensitive and readily take on energies from other people. A tiny amount rubbed on to the solar plexus in an anticlockwise direction is very effective.
